Treleven sponsors Creative Residencies which grant recipients accommodation on the farm for up to one month in a modern guest house—The Annex—adjacent to the main farmhouse. This is a beautiful, sunny space of almost 1,000 square feet with a bed in one corner, a desk in another, a dining area with a table, a well-equipped kitchen, a bathroom with shower, and a deck overlooking the farm’s surrounding fields and forests. The atmosphere is peaceful, inspiring and highly conducive to creative work. Past residencies have been provided for poets, essayists, photographers, filmmakers, songwriters and other creative artists.
At present, Treleven offers these Residencies 2-3 times a year; available dates are negotiable, and may depend on other activities scheduled for The Annex. The costs for the use of The Annex will be covered by the nonprofit, although during winter months a modest contribution may be requested to cover utilities. Applicants who are accepted for creative retreats will be responsible for their own transportation and food. Applications will be considered both for one-month and for two-week residencies.
The proposed creative project should relate to some aspect of Treleven’s mission, which emphasizes environmental awareness, social justice, spiritual development and issues in personal growth. The application should consist of a cover-letter with a description of the proposed project and why Treleven’s rural farm setting should benefit the process of its development, a sample of creative work in the proposed field (for writers, please provide a manuscript of between 200 and 2,000 words), a brief resumé and two letters of recommendation. Applicants are asked to submit these materials to Cheryl Mitchell at cheryl.w.mitchell@gmail.com. A selection committee from the Treleven Board will read all materials and get back to successful applicants to discuss scheduling for their residency.
